These are the chords to the '78 version of
Racing In The Street from The Promise.
It's a terrific rendition of the song
and I searched and searched but
couldn't find the chords online.
Finally I picked up my guitar and
sounded them out. I hope this helps
anyone else whose been searching for
these chords.

And she's waiting tonight down in the parking lot
            C Bb
Outside the 7-Eleven store

Me and my partner Sonny built her straight out of scratch

We shut 'em up and we shut 'em down

Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
          C Bb
I wanna blow 'em all out of their seats

Come on out around the world
            C Bb
We're going racing in the street

There just ain't nothing left at home
               C Bb
Waking up in a world that somebody else owns

 F Dm
Tonight, tonight the strip's just right
           C Bb
I wanna blow 'em off in my first heat
    F Dm
Now summer's here and the time is right
    C Bb
For racing in the street

Here's where the violin starts and the key changes.
It moves up 3 half steps so F = G#, Dm = Fm, C = D#,
and Bb = C#. You can throw a capo on the third fret
and play all the chords like before, or you can just
play barre chords.

   G# Fm
I met her on the strip three years ago
      D# C#
In a Camaro with this dude from L.A.
  G# Fm D# C#
I blew that Camaro off my back and stole that little girl away
            G# Fm
Now there's wrinkles 'round my baby's eyes
     D# C#
She cries herself to sleep at night
    G# Fm
When I come home, the house is dark she sighs,
 D# C#
"Baby did you make it all right?"
     G# Fm
She sits on the porch of her daddy's house
               D# C#
But honey your pretty dress is torn
       G# Fm
She stares out alone into the night
                 D# C#
With the eyes of one who hates for just bein' born
            G# Fm
For all the blown-off strangers and hot rod angels
  D# C#
Stumbling through this promised land
           G# Fm
Tonight my baby and me we're gonna ride to the sea
     D# C#
And wash these sins off our hands

 G# Fm
Tonight tonight the strip's just right
        D# C#
I wanna blow 'em off in my first heat
  G# Fm
Come on out the time is right
            D# C#
We're goin' racing in the street

Also if you want, you can play E in the bass
of the F chord before changing to Dm. It sounds
fine if you don't, but it sounds more like
the recording if you do.
